Material selection for erosion-corrosion in oil and gas

Anne Neville (School of Mechanical Engineering)

This industrially-funded project is available immediately in the School of Mechanical Engineering, rated 5** at the last Research Assessment Exercise.

The project will investigate the fundamental aspects of erosion-corrosion of a range of engineering alloys as a result of sand production in the oil and gas well. The student will gain experience of a range of electrochemical techniques associated with corrosion measurement and will also be able to use a suite of advanced surface analysis facilities available in the university. There will be a strong interaction between the sponsoring companies and the student will have the opportunity to spend time in the company laboratories.
